Etwa 40 km n\u00f6rdlich von Assuan, an der Ostseite des Nils, liegt die Industriestadt Kom Ombo. Bekannt ist die Stadt vor allem durch den 8 km s\u00fcdlich liegenden, gr\u00f6\u00dften Kamelmarkt \u00c4gyptens und f\u00fcr den alt\u00e4gyptischen Doppeltempel, der malerisch an einer Nilschleife liegt. Die Ruinen des Tempels von Kom Ombo sind auf dem Gipfel eines H\u00fcgels erbaut. Als der Tempel seine kultische Funktion verlor, wurde er im Laufe der Zeit von Driftsand bedeckt. Als die Kopten den Tempel nutzten, zerst\u00f6rten sie einige der Reliefs. Sp\u00e4ter diente der Tempel als Steinbruch.
