Knapp 55 km s\u00fcdlich von Luxor, am Westufer des Nils gelegen, befindet sich die 70.000 Einwohner gro\u00dfe Stadt Esna. Esna gilt als das Zentrum des koptischen Glaubens. Zu den Sehensw\u00fcrdigkeiten der Stadt z\u00e4hlen der Chnum-Tempel und das Stauwehr, das bis zur Errichtung des Assuan-Staudamms die um Esna liegenden Baumwollfelder mit Wasser versorgte und heute nur noch als Br\u00fccke dient.<\/p>\n
Der Tempel von Esna, der alt\u00e4gyptischen Chnum-Tempel, war dem widderk\u00f6pfigen Chnum geweiht, der als Sch\u00f6pfer von Menschen und G\u00f6ttern galt. Der einzig erhaltene Tempelteil ist die Vorhalle des Tempels (Pronaos).
