Where heaven and earth meet
A little further away, south of St. Catherine's Monastery, rises the 2.285-meter-high Jebel Musa, or Mount Moses, which is called Mount Horeb in the Bible. Here, the God of Israel gave Moses the tablets of the Law with the Ten Commandments. It is a place of worship for the three monotheistic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam).
Mount Moses, considered holy, can be climbed in about three hours.
Several paths lead up the mountain. The most well-known is the Sikket Sayidna Musa, or Path of Our Lord Moses, which begins immediately behind the monastery. Halfway along the path is a spring called Mayet Musa, the Moses Spring, where, according to tradition, the Prophet watered his flock.
The journey from Sharm El Sheikh to the foot of Mount Sinai takes about three hours. From there, you begin the ascent (approximately a 3-hour hike). At the summit, you'll be rewarded with a magnificent view of the entire Sinai Peninsula.
