Wines (Vinhos)
You should definitely try the local wines! In the interior of the country, preference is given to growing heavy, tannin-rich red wines, while in the north the sparkling Vinho Verde, the well-known young white wine - a real specialty of Portugal - predominates. The slight tingling and pearls are characteristic. Another specialty of Portugal is port wine (Vinho do Porto). The grapes of this wine, improved by adding brandy, grow in the rugged, mountainous area of the Douro upper reaches in northern Portugal. Port wines are white or red, with the red being the more famous and the white usually the drier (Seco). The alcohol content is 19-24%.
