Useful and interesting information about your vacation
Pharmacies
The pharmacies are called Farmakion in Greece and are marked by a green Maltese cross. Pharmacies can be found in all major towns. They are usually open daily, with a lunch break usually from 13 to 17 p.m.
Doctor
You can get the address and telephone number of the nearest doctor at your hotel reception. Of course, you can also have a doctor called to your hotel.
Banks
The Greek word for bank is trapeza. Banks are open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 13 p.m.
SHOP
In all tourist towns, the shops are open daily in summer, mostly between 9 a.m. and midnight. In the early and late season there is often a lunch break, then the shops are closed from 24 to 14 p.m.
Public buses
Many stops are right in front of the hotels. The reception of your hotel will be happy to inform you about departure times. Please do not expect absolute punctuality, delays are rather normal and are not taken seriously here.
Nightlife
There are countless taverns and bars in all holiday resorts. In some towns there are also open-air clubs and discos. These are mostly outside. Particularly popular with the Greeks are their bousoukias, in which only Greek live music is played - there you can experience the Greek atmosphere up close.
peripheral
These small sales kiosks, which you can find on almost every corner in all towns and cities, are an indispensable part of the Greek streetscape. Here you can get cigarettes, drinks, telephone cards and many other things around the clock.
Post
Here it is called Tachidromio. The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 13.30 p.m. Please ask your travel agent or the reception of your hotel about the current postage charges for postal traffic within Europe.
Beach / nudism
All beaches are public, so there may be bottlenecks in cleaning, especially in midsummer. Nude bathing is forbidden in Greece, "topless" is (now) tolerated. However, please be sure to pay attention to the sensitivity of the locals.
Taxi
There are taxi ranks in every major town. However, you can also order a taxi by phone or stop it directly on the street or in the village square. All taxis have a taximeter. As the fees can vary, please ask at reception or directly from the taxi driver.
To phone
The area code for Germany is 0049, for Austria 0043, for Switzerland 0041, then dial the area code without the first zero and then the subscriber number.
Tip
The service staff will be happy to receive a little recognition. In taverns and bars, 10% is usually the norm.
Traffic
The speeds are set at 50 km / h inside built-up areas, 90 km / h outside built-up areas and 110 km / h on the expressway. Please always pay attention to the traffic signs, do not forget to buckle up and obey the traffic rules. The penalties in Greece are very high!
Weekly markets
A popular shopping destination for the Greeks. Here they stock up on fresh, but also with products that are not used every day. Do not miss the pleasure of a stroll through one of the many weekly markets - you will notice how much more pleasant and varied it is to shop in a lively market than in a supermarket.
