Description
Desert up close & overnight in a Bedouin tent
You will be picked up from your hotels by off-road vehicle and drive over the 7 km long Roman dam “El Kantara” to the Tunisian mainland.
Passing old granaries you reach your first destination: the old provincial town of Tataouine. There you will visit a typical spice market. If you want to buy spices, then remember the most important commandment: bargaining is fun!
You then move away from the larger towns and cross a rocky landscape to Chenini, an old Berber village with rock dwellings.
After a delicious lunch, we head to the Ksar Ghilane oasis. This is located in the middle of the fine dunes, where the large eastern erg begins. Use the time there to bathe in the spring. Or would you prefer a dromedary ride (optional, payable on site, approx. 50 TND per person) or a small quad tour (optional, payable on site, approx. 100 TND per quad)?
Dinner will be served at the oasis. The absolute highlight of the trip is spending the night in a tent. You won't soon forget this night!
The next day, after breakfast, the trail takes you to Matmata. Visit a cave dwelling that is still inhabited in the middle of the lunar landscape.
After lunch we slowly return towards Djerba/Zarzis. Before that, you will stop in the town of Toujane.
