If a deposit is paid by credit card, the credit card receipt will state "PREAUTH" (pre-authorized amount). This corresponds to a direct debit authorization. These amounts are usually released immediately after the rental agreement ends. In some countries (e.g., Greece), however, the average release takes 1-3 weeks. As a general rule, leaving the island or the country with a rental car is not permitted. If you have such travel plans, please first request permission from the rental car provider. Without permission, your insurance coverage will be void.

Typically, you will receive and return your rental car with a full tank of fuel. Otherwise, the fuel policy will be noted in the rental agreement. If you do not return the rental car with the agreed-upon fuel level, the rental partner will charge a service fee and the cost of the missing fuel.

The difference between fully comprehensive and partially comprehensive insurance lies primarily in the scope of the coverage. Partial comprehensive insurance generally covers damage caused by external influences, such as theft or natural disasters. Glass, tire, and interior damage are excluded from coverage with most rental car providers. Full comprehensive insurance includes all the benefits of partially comprehensive insurance, plus additional accident damage, vandalism, and hit-and-run damage. With insurance coverage with a deductible, you will bear a portion of the costs yourself in the event of a claim (the amount varies depending on the provider); without a deductible, the insurance company will cover all costs.
