Description
A visit to the land of the Skipetars
At the beginning of the excursion we go by ship to Agioi Saranda (port fee €15 pp from 5 years, not included, payable locally), one of the oldest ports in Albania, located in the very south of the country, opposite northern Corfu.
Immediately after arrival, you will travel in an air-conditioned bus, accompanied by a local, German-speaking guide, to the ruined city of Butrint, about 20 km away, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1992. This cultural monument is sheltered on a peninsula in a lagoon and has always attracted conquerors, travelers and those seeking relaxation. Butrint is a second Troy in miniature – as the Roman poet Virgil wrote. The city was already known for its mineral springs two and a half thousand years ago and in ancient times it developed into a spa and festival location.
During a detailed tour through this ruined city you will see the remains of a Greek colony (eg amphitheatre), a Roman city and a Byzantine diocese.
After you have collected many impressions here, a lunch buffet (included) awaits you in the port town of Agioi Saranda.
In the afternoon, the guide takes you along the waterfront and through the city center. Of course, you also have a little time to buy a souvenir for yourself or your loved ones at home. Euros are accepted.
