Gastouri
The east coast south of Corfu Town was for many years the Eldorado of the European rich and famous. The best-known example is the neoclassical summer palace Achilleion of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth. The palace-like villa is one of the most beautiful sights on the island today. A walk through the extensive park with impressive sculptures of Greek gods and heroes as well as cacti, date and olive trees is recommended.
Moraitika and Messonghi
The place Moraitika, which forms one half of the double place Moraitika-Messonghi, was already a popular resort in ancient times and has developed into an important tourist center on the island over the past 35 years. In addition to the gently sloping, long and four meter wide sandy beach, there are numerous souvenir shops, supermarkets, cafes and restaurants on the main street.
Messonghi, only separated from Moraitika by the river of the same name, is fully geared towards tourism in terms of infrastructure. The small streets and alleys with the taverns, bars, mini markets, souvenir and newspaper stands that invite you to stroll are pleasantly shady. The town's long promenade offers many taverns, bars and nightlife options. The beautiful sandy beach with a small percentage of pebbles is gently sloping and ideal for children.
chlomos
A narrow mountain road leads to the small mountain village Chlomos, which is away from the hustle and bustle and tourism. Explore the charming village, stroll through the narrow streets and marvel at the ancient olive groves and the natural stone houses adorned with many flowers. Enjoy the wonderful view over the south and the east coast of the island.
Lefkimi
Lefkimi is the second largest town on the island and the center of the south of the island. The main attraction for tourists is the canal of the same name and the bridge over the river. The Lefkimi ferry port is outside the village. From here car ferries run to mainland Greece.
Paxos
Paxos is the smallest Ionian island at 19 km² and is just under 90 minutes by boat from Corfu. About half of the 3.000 islanders live in the main town of Gaios; there is a unique natural harbor as well as many shops, cafes and restaurants along the promenade. In the north are the seaside resorts of Lakka and Loggos, next to Gaios the two largest towns on the island. The fishing village of Lakka has a small pedestrian zone, taverns and cafes at the harbor and beautiful beaches. The semicircular bay of Loggos with countless
Olive trees and the many lined up houses is an eye-catcher. Here you can find peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle. In the east of the island there are idyllic bays; the west coast is characterized by steep cliffs.
Antipaxos
South of Paxos is the tiny sister island Antipaxos, which measures just under five square kilometers. The small idyll can be reached from Paxos by boat (duration about 30 minutes). Only a few families live on Antipaxos. The beautiful, mostly sandy beaches, such as Vrika and Voutoumi, and the quiet bays with their crystal clear water should be enjoyed to the full on a day trip.
