The west coast of the island is much less developed than the east coast. Thanks to the expansion of the road network in recent years, the bays of Ermones and Mirtiotissa can be easily reached. That is why the most beautiful beaches in the region, such as Golden Beach in Glyfada Bay, are well frequented during the high season.
Paleokastritsa
The picturesque Paleokastritsa is next to the island capital the most famous place on the island. Excursions with water taxis to the surrounding grottos and beaches are offered here.
On the peninsula, above the bay, is the Panagia Theotókos monastery, which was founded in 1228 and is still managed by monks today. From the monastery you can enjoy a fantastic view. The most beautiful view of the bays of Paleokastritsa can be enjoyed from Lakones - also known as the "balcony of the Ionian Sea". The old street village and the popular "Bella Vista" lookout point are located directly on the steep coast above Paleokastritsa.
