tap water
“Nero” is the Greek's favorite drink. You can safely use it for cooking and brushing your teeth. As drinking water, we recommend purchased bottled water due to its high calcium content.
Mosquitoes
Corfu is a very green island with lush vegetation and therefore there are more insects. Mosquitoes, commonly known here as mosquitoes, can be particularly annoying. Insect repellent is particularly recommended at dusk. Creams, sprays, etc. are available from pharmacies, and insect repellent plugs for the socket in every supermarket.
Post
In Greece, the post office is called “tachidromion”. The opening times are Monday to Friday from 7.30 a.m. to 14 p.m., in midsummer until 20 p.m. The postage to Germany, Austria and Switzerland is € 0,75 for postcards and letters. You can usually buy stamps together with the postcards, which you can post at most receptions.
Sonne
In your own interest, please ensure that you have adequate sun protection, especially with children, and avoid the midday sun. Also, remember to balance your fluid balance and drink as much water as possible.
Souvenirs
Corfu is famous for its kumquat products such as liqueur or jam, which you can buy in any supermarket. Popular souvenirs are also finely crafted silver jewelry, beautiful ceramics in the colors of the country, hand-embroidered blankets, icons painted according to old models and olive wood carvings.
Sports facilities
Local water skiing, windsurfing and parasailing providers can be found on many of the beaches. Riding is possible in Avlaki near Kassiopi and in Roda. The golf course is located at Ermones.
voltage
The voltage is 220 volts, but still pay attention to the relevant instructions. If you need an adapter, you can get it either at the reception or in the nearest supermarket. For safety reasons, there are no sockets in many hotel bathrooms.
Taxi
The reception of your hotel will be happy to help you if you need a taxi. The taxis are equipped with a taximeter, but the fare should be discussed beforehand. In Corfu Town you can find taxis on the Esplanade, am
San Rocco Square and the old port.
Phone
Area code for Germany is 0049, for Austria 0043 and for Switzerland 0041. Then dial the area code for the city without 0 and then the subscriber's number.
In Corfu, especially in the north-east, it can happen that your mobile phone dials into the Albanian mobile network and high roaming charges can result. We therefore recommend turning off the automatic network selection on your phone and manually selecting the Greek mobile network instead.
Toilets
Because of the narrow sewer pipes, in most toilets it is necessary to throw the toilet paper into the container provided for it.
Tip
It is customary to tip in restaurants and bars. The guideline value is approx. 10% of the invoice amount. In the hotel you should take into account the maid, the porter and your waiter in the restaurant. If you don't wait until the day of your departure to tip, you will be served even more attentively. The bus driver who drives your excursion bus and the tour guides will also be happy to receive a small tip. Whether and how much you tip is of course up to you and should only be done in recognition of a good performance. In our opinion, a tip is a matter of course for extra services. Even in all-inclusive systems, the staff is happy to receive a tip.
time
In general, the hens in Greece literally tick a little slower and everyone knows the Greek answer “Siga-siga” when you point to the h with German punctuality. Once you arrive, remember to advance your h by an hour.
Valuables
As everywhere, it also happens on Corfu that people steal. If possible, keep valuables and papers in a rental safe in your hotel. Otherwise, the same precautions apply as at home. Do not leave money in the room, keep an eye on your bag wherever there is a crowd and on the beach, take only as much money as necessary, do not put your wallet in your back pocket and do not leave objects like that worthless they may be, lying in the car. Never leave wallets/car papers in the glove compartment or in the trunk. Please report the loss of identity papers to the local police in good time. Neither the hotel nor the tour operator is liable for stolen items in the room.
