Description
An absolute must on your trip
A visit to Knossos is one of the highlights of any trip to Crete. Combine fascinating culture and history with the vibrant life of the Cretan capital Heraklion.
After arriving in Heraklion, stroll through Crete's largest weekly market. In addition to many farmers selling their fruit and vegetables, numerous vendors have set up their stalls and loudly offer their wares. Especially on Saturdays, a wide selection of household goods, clothing, and shoes are on offer.
Experience this lively and bustling market atmosphere!
Afterwards, you'll visit the Palace of Knossos, located seven kilometers south of Heraklion. The seat of the legendary King Minos, who had the labyrinth built for the Minotaur (the monster – half-man, half-bull), was once the largest of all Minoan palaces. Minoan culture emerged 4.000 years ago and is considered the cradle of Europe. You'll encounter this distant era on a guided tour through the partially reconstructed palace complex with its fascinating architecture.
The tour then continues to the capital, Heraklion, where you'll have the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum and the Venetian Fortress.
Or perhaps you simply stroll through the lively shopping streets and have a bite to eat or a drink in one of the numerous taverns or cafés.
