Due to its favorable location, protected by mountains in the north and by islands from the sea, the Kvarner Bay was a popular resort for the Austrian nobility in both summer and winter because of its balanced climate. Then as now, the big islands of Rab, Lošinj, Krk and Cres also have over 2500 hours of sunshine a year. • Visit the port city of Rijeka, one of the largest cities in Croatia that has sights and attractions to offer. One of the oldest places of pilgrimage in Croatia is Trsat. The beautiful and old castle rises high above Rijeka and offers an excellent view.
• A walk through the town of Opatija will take you past many monuments that tell Opatija's bright history. Villa Angiolina, St. Jacob's Church, Open-Air Theater, Helios and Selene Fountain, and Croatian Walk of Fame are just some of the must-see sights in Opatija.
• A trip to the Velebit Nature Park is ideal for hikers and nature lovers.
• In the town of Senj you will find an impressive and well-preserved fortress. This dates back to the 16th century and was used by the Uscots as a defense against the Turks and Venetians.
• The stalactite cave Biserujka offers interesting insights into the underworld.
• The Plitvice Lakes impress with their unique natural landscape. In total there are 16 large and small lakes in this area, which are connected by beautiful waterfalls.
