Croatian is a Slavic language. This belongs to the Indo-European language family and is therefore closely related to German. For historical reasons, however, this language is further removed from our sense of language than Germanic, but also Romance languages ​​such as Italian or French.

If you already speak another Slavic language, you will also find it easier to learn the basics of Croatian. If not, as a beginner, your expectations should be modest, as some grammatical pitfalls aren't immediately obvious. For example, the language has seven cases. The so-called verbal aspects are particularly difficult to master.

Special letters in the Croatian alphabet are [č] (tsch), [ć] (slightly softer than č), [đ] (voiced dsch), š (voiced sh) and ž (voiced sh).
