Experience volcanic trails, lava fields and cliff views!

This hike takes place in the north of the island. You hike two nature reserves: the natural monument La Corona volcano and the cliffs of Famara in the nature park of the Chinijo archipelago.

The tour begins in the small village of Ye, from where you hike to the La Corona volcano. During the ascent to the crater, you can enjoy the magnificent view over the landscape, which is mainly used for wine cultivation, and over the so-called Malpais – a mighty lava flow full of huge basalt blocks, which flows down to the azure Atlantic Ocean.
After visiting the enormous crater, walk around its eastern flank. From up here, you can see the volcano's 7,6 km long lava tube, a 1,6 km section of which now lies underwater. This is because the eruption of La Corona volcano occurred during the last Ice Age, when the sea level was more than 90 meters below its current level.

The La Corona volcano forms a chain of volcanoes with four other mountains. During your excursion you will climb three of these craters: the volcanoes La Cerca, Los Helechos and La Quemada de Gallo, which probably erupted at the same time as the volcano La Corona. This string of craters is located on the Famara massif and reaches heights of 580 or 560 meters and therefore enables a spectacular panoramic view.

Then you descend and hike for several kilometers along the impressive, 22 km long Famara cliffs. From up here you have a breathtaking view across the entire Chinijo archipelago, especially the nearby island of La Graciosa.
