country and people
Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese group. Its strategically advantageous location in the Southeast Aegean - between Asia Minor and Egypt - already favored its development in ancient times and helped Rhodes to establish itself as an important sea power and trading metropolis.
In addition to the typical Greek hospitality, you can expect daily sunshine, beautiful beaches of various types, well-kept hotels and a wide range of sports on Rhodes - the island is a Dorado especially for windsurfers. With 260 to 270 days of sunshine per year, Rhodes is the sunniest island in the eastern Mediterranean. In ancient times, Rhodes was also called the island of the sun god Helios. Hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters are typical for the island. Due to the stronger winds, numerous sailing and windsurfing areas were created on the west side.
Rhodes is one of the greenest islands in Greece. Although there are 27 endemic plant species, the flora is not only of European origin, there are also plants from Asia and North America. Because of its natural beauties and its archaeological treasures, the island became famous far beyond Greece's borders and still attracts tourists from all countries under its spell.
