Also called the Pompeii of Greece
Kamiros is the name of a municipality on the west side of the island. This was named after the ancient city of the same name, which is around 37 km from Rhodes Town on the west coast of the island.
You can't live and go on vacation here, the city has been deserted for thousands of years.
The excavations, however, are among the most important in Rhodes. You shouldn't miss to see them. The archaeological site of the city of Kamiros, whose heyday dates back more than 2.600 years, is located on a mountain hill surrounded by pine trees. The dark stones of ancient houses, temples and cisterns lie on a gentle slope, embedded in the green of the pine and pine trees.
The view from the ancient site over the green of the landscape to far out to the blue sea is unforgettable.
