The small, cozy neighboring island

You depart from Kamiros Skala harbor and travel along the west coast, passing several offshore islands, to Chalki. With a bit of luck, you might spot dolphins among the fish farms, accompanying the boat for a while. In ancient times, up to 8.000 people lived on the then-forested island – today, only 450 remain. The name Chalki translates to copper, which was once mined here.
Chalki, along with the islands of Symi and Kalymnos, was for a long time the center of sponge diving and prospered during this period. The magnificent houses in the port town of Emborio, which have been and continue to be renovated, are reminders of this era. The town invites visitors to stroll and dine in its small tavernas. Here you will discover many picturesque photo opportunities.

The former main town of Chorio below the Venetian castle in the interior of the island has long been abandoned. On the way there you get to Pondamos Beach - a lovely sandy beach in a quiet bay. Spend the day here, relax and enjoy the cool water. Loungers and umbrellas for a fee are available. In the late afternoon the boat starts again towards Rhodes.
