Description
Along the Turkish coast to the sponge diving island
The relaxing one and a half hour boat trip takes you along the Turkish coast to Symi, the island of sponge divers. This excursion is worthwhile simply because of the breathtakingly beautiful entrance to the picturesque bay of the island of Symi.
Already on board you can marvel at the pastel-colored, colorful mansions that stretch up the rocky slope like pearls on a string. Be sure to roam the narrow streets and climb the steep stairs, because from the church above you can enjoy a gigantic view of the pretty village.
The local sponge diving families and rustic herb women, who you are sure to meet, are typical for Symi. Perhaps you will acquire one or the other practical souvenir. You should definitely try the island's specialty: delicious seafood!
The highlight of the day is definitely a visit to the famous Panormitis pilgrimage monastery. Its church, dedicated to St. Michael, houses unique frescoes and a small, interesting monastery museum. The monastery still attracts numerous pilgrims from all over the world.
