A haven of peace - far away from the hustle and bustle
Filerimos is about ten kilometers southwest of Rhodes.
The size of the plateau on Mount Filerimos suggests that the settlement was once very extensive. The area has hardly been archaeologically explored to date, only the foundation walls of an Athena temple and a Doric well house have been uncovered to this day. The Byzantine monastery Filerimos (translated: friend of solitude), restored by Italian archaeologists, with its well-kept park is an oasis of calm and contemplation. From the entrance to the monastery, a shady avenue lined with pine trees leads to the cloister. The path leads past 14 Stations of the Cross and ends at a 15 m high concrete cross.
The accessible cross with its viewing platform was built from 1992 to 1996. A narrow, steep staircase leads to the platform inside the cross. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a magnificent view, far beyond the west coast to the coast of Asia Minor.
