Turkey's flora is the most varied in the Near East; there are over 9.000 plant species with 850 genera.
Palm trees, cypresses, pines, olive trees and macchia bushes can be found on the coast.
The interior of the country is mostly barren; the mountains are forested. Sandpipers, green lizards and harmless snakes make their home in the lowlands and on the coast. Foxes, wolves, deer, goats, buzzards and eagles live in the mountains.
