Useful information
Banks are on weekdays usually from 09:00 to 12:30 h and from 13:30 to 17:00 h, the exchange offices daily from about 09:00 to 19:00 h, often open until midnight in tourist areas during the season. You will usually get a better exchange rate in the exchange offices and banks than in your hotel. There are ATMs in every tourist resort. When exchanging travelers cheques, please take your passport or ID card with you. We recommend withdrawing cash with a bank or credit card only from bank ATMs.
Kreditkarten are accepted by all airlines, major hotels, car rental companies, and most shops and restaurants, with the exception of American Express. EC cards are increasingly accepted.
post offices are marked with PTT and in the tourist areas often up 17:00 h open. You can get phone cards and stamps here. Postage is around €0,70. Transport to other European countries takes about one to two weeks.
Tip should, as in your home country, be seen as recognition of good work. For special services, it should be a matter of course to give an appropriate tip. In restaurants and bars, a tip of about ten percent of the bill is customary. and
keep in mind that for many employees, tipping is a necessary perk. Guides and bus drivers are also happy about a financial thank you for the excursions.
valuables and papers, such as passports and airline tickets, are best kept in a safe. If lost report this to the police as you will need a police report for insurance to make any claims. As is customary internationally, no hotelier is liable for valuables stolen from the room. If you lose your identity papers, please contact the consulate in Antalya with a police report and two passport photos. Of course, you can also contact your tour guide, who will be happy to help you.
The Turkish currency is called Turkish Lira (short: TL). In the holiday centers it is possible to pay in euros; in the surrounding area it requires the Turkish lira. The subunit is called Kurus.
