The Ajman area consists of three parts: The main part lies on a 16 km long stretch of coastline on the Persian Gulf and is home to the capital city of Ajman.
The other two sections are Manama and Masfut which are 60 km and 110 km respectively inland from the capital Ajman. The Chinese Bazaar in the Industrial Area of Ajman City is worth visiting. In Ajman, the fort of the then rulers is well preserved. It houses a small museum that shows the living conditions of the population before the oil deposits were found.
Ajman is the smallest and poorest of the seven emirates. The small oil reserves have long since dried up. Farming is not possible due to the dry and barren soil. The emirate only generates its own income through trade, its own dhow shipyard and the burgeoning tourism. Ajman offers many beautiful hotels.
Therefore, Ajman is dependent on subsidies from the rich neighboring emirates.
