Experience Cyprus on four wheels
There are many ways to explore the island on your own. In Cyprus you will find a well-developed road network, numerous bus connections and taxis. You can also rent cars and motorcycles everywhere on favorable terms. However, there are a few things to watch out for:
Taxi
The reception is happy to help if you want to call a taxi. For longer distances you should agree on the price with the taxi driver before starting your journey.
Buses
These run regularly in all hotel zones during the day and once a day to the larger cities. Please refer to the bus timetable for the exact departure times. You can get it at reception or from your tour guide.
Notes on rental vehicles
Rental cars are available all over Cyprus at a wide variety of prices. The prices vary with regard to the insurances and their conditions. Some landlords lure with offers of basic prices that seem cheap. In addition, there are extras such as delivery, various insurances (usually with excess) and taxes. It also often happens that the landlord offers "full insurance". If you inquire more precisely, you will then find out that a deductible is required in the event of damage.
In order to help you choose from the often opaque and confusing offers and to be able to offer you the highest level of security, we have concluded a special arrangement with ASTRA, an experienced car rental company.
If you would like to rent a car or have further questions, we will be happy to help you, advise you and have some tips ready for you.
Road conditions and traffic situation
Attention: In Cyprus there is left-hand traffic. So drive very carefully. Once you get used to it, driving is no longer difficult, but rather a pleasure.
The main roads in Cyprus are paved. There are motorways between the big cities, but there are also adventurous slopes. The asphalt is often not in the best condition, the roads in the mountains are always very narrow and sometimes lead very close to the abyss.
Be careful, especially for two-wheelers on wet or sandy roads or gravel roads, these are extremely slippery. Honking the horn is not forbidden in Cyprus, but rather common and useful in front of blind bends. You should definitely drive slowly when cornering. On the way in the mountains you should expect sheep, goats and donkeys on the road at any time.
