Description
A journey through time through history and culture
Nicosia has been the capital of Cyprus since the 11th century, has its own interesting Venetian walled history and has been a divided capital since 1974.
Stroll through the narrow streets with their overhanging balconies and the restored, bustling pedestrian zone, past the artisan shops, taverns and coffee houses. In addition to the Archbishop's Palace, visit the St. John's Cathedral with its interesting frescoes from the 17th century.
A "must" is a visit to the Archaeological Museum or Leventis Museum, which displays the island's most important collection of Cypriot treasures from antiquity. Afterwards you have free time in the pedestrian zone.
The guide will take you on a walk across the demarcation line into the occupied part of town to the church of Agia Sofia (now Selimiye Mosque) and the big market. Please note that short pants or skirts are not permitted in the church.
