A journey through time to the south of Tunisia
After being picked up from your hotel in Djerba, you will head to the Tunisian mainland via the 7 km long Roman causeway “El Kantara” (participating guests from Zarzis will be picked up there) in the direction of Chahbania, where you will already see the first sand dunes.
A journey into the past begins: try a delicious “gazelle horn”, a pastry filled with almonds or peanuts that is famous throughout the country, and stroll through the lively streets of Tataouine.
Your journey continues to Chenini. Chenini is the only Berber village in southern Tunisia that is still inhabited. Like an eagle's nest, it sits enthroned on the top of a mountain. Step back in time as you walk through the 11th-century village and see a typical cave dwelling.
After a delicious lunch, visit traditional ksars (storage castles) where you will gain an interesting insight into Berber culture. Near the Ksars there are so-called “Ghorfas”, old granaries from the 17th century.
On the return trip to Djerba, you will slowly start your journey back to the present and take unforgettable impressions home with you!
