Description
From stone age caves to picturesque harbor towns
On this bus trip through the Ida Mountains you will get to know the diversity of Crete – all the way to the south coast to the famous hippie town of Matala.
On the edge of Mount Ida, surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, lies the village of Ano Assites. Narrow streets full of flowers lead you to the old church of Saint John and the traditional goat bell workshop.
Afterwards, enjoy Mrs. Irine's homemade tea with fragrant medicinal herbs and homemade cookies in the village.
The road to Matala leads through the only lowland in Crete, the Mesara, with its ancient olive trees and orange groves. Capture these motifs for eternity during a short photo break!
This scenic route also includes a visit to Gortys, the old Roman capital of Crete. Gortys is famous for its tablets of the law from the 5th century BC, also known as the Queen of Inscriptions.
According to Greek mythology, Zeus is said to have married his lover, the beautiful Princess Europa, here under the evergreen plane tree of Gortys.
Then you reach the idyllic south coast with the small town of Matala, where the flower children sought peace and quiet in the 60s.
The blue sea, the rocky landscape with the famous caves, the enchanting nature, the picturesque taverns on the beach, the colorful market with its handicrafts promise an unforgettable stay.
During a long lunch break you have time to eat (not included), swim and stroll.
From the south coast we continue towards the north coast, past olive groves and mountain villages with wonderful views of the Ida Mountains.
An excursion not to be missed!
