Description
This excursion takes you along the highway between the capital Heraklion and the town of Agios Nikolaos to Mirabello Bay.
On the way you will pass numerous beaches and quaint mountain villages.
Vast sea, high mountains, noble hotels and simple guesthouses – you will find all of this around you and can capture it as a souvenir during a photo stop.
After continuing your journey you will reach the small town of Elounda.
For more than three decades, Elounda has also been a popular holiday destination for famous personalities from politics and show business.
After a beach holiday in Elounda, the tour around the island of Spinalonga begins.
The island has a varied and eventful history:
First it was a pirate base, later a Venetian fortress, then a Turkish settlement and finally a leper colony.
Due to the high risk of infection, its inhabitants lived in complete isolation. They formed a village community on the island with a complete infrastructure.
There was a school, grocery stores, and even a tavern.
After the discovery of the vaccine, isolation was lifted and the last inhabitants left the island in 1957.
After the boat trip you will visit Agios Nikolaos.
This charming little town offers all kinds of attractions: museums, cafes, shops and taverns.
Take the opportunity to take a short stroll through the city in a special evening atmosphere.
