Description
Encounter from then and now!
In the slightly cooler afternoon hours, Knossos, the most important archaeological site on Crete, will be visited. Here was once the center of the Minoan culture, the oldest advanced civilization in Europe.
World-famous and unique: the ruins of the Minoan palace of King Minos. The Minoans built this palace about 3.500 years ago about 5 km south of Heraklion.
After visiting Knossos we go to Heraklion, today's capital of Crete. Heraklion was the port of the Minoan palace settlement of Knossos in Minoan times. The city nowadays hosts the public services and the most important scientific centers of Crete. It is also the commercial center of the island due to its large port and airport.
In Heraklion you have the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum. The museum is not only one of the largest and most important museums in Greece, but also one of the most important museums in Europe. The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is rightly recognized worldwide as the museum of Minoan culture par excellence.
