Description
Encounter from then and now!
Visit Knossos, Crete's most important archaeological site, in the cooler evening hours. This was once the center of the Minoan civilization—the oldest advanced civilization in Europe. The Minoans built this palace around 3.500 years ago, about 5 km south of Heraklion. The ruins of the Minoan palace of King Minos are world-famous and unique!
After visiting Knossos, we continue to Heraklion, the present-day capital of Crete. Heraklion was the port of the palace settlement of Knossos during Minoan times. Today, the city houses public institutions and the most important scientific centers of Crete. It is also the island's commercial center thanks to its large port and airport.
In Heraklion, you have the opportunity to visit the Archaeological Museum. The museum is not only one of the largest and most important museums in Greece, but also one of the most important in Europe. The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is rightly called the museum of Minoan culture par excellence and is recognized worldwide.
