Description
A fascinating, unique excursion
Only on this great 2-day excursion can you admire the three major sights of Yucatan: Chichen Itza, Uxmal and of course Merida - the impressive colonial city with its magnificent Spanish architecture.
But not the filthy Mammon is the first priority of this excursion: The murals in the palace at the Zocalo and the visit to the cathedral will certainly remain unforgettable. You will also make a stopover in Itzamal.
Chichen Itza, perhaps the best-known of all Maya cities, was founded in the late 5th century and became the leading city in northern Yucatan by the 10th century. Most of the partially restored buildings that you can visit also date from this period. Let yourself be impressed by the temple city with the world-famous pyramid of the god Kukulkan and the monumental ball court.
A must-see counterpoint to the Mayan-Toltec hybrid architecture of Chichen Itza is Uxmal – here, the Maya, unthreatened by external forces, developed their culture to an unprecedented peak. Particularly impressive are the rich facade decorations, including the mask of the rain god Chac, and the Pyramid of the Soothsayer (only those with a head for heights should attempt to climb it).
