Description
Excursion to the land of the Mayas
The location of this excavation site is what makes Tulum so special: it was built on a rocky plateau directly on the Caribbean beach. The strong wall testifies to the fortress character of the city, which was still inhabited when the Spaniards arrived.
More than any of the structures, however, you will be captivated by the breathtaking and unforgettable view of the Caribbean from here. Coba was rediscovered only at the beginning of the 20th century. Restoration was carried out only to the extent necessary to ensure the structures could withstand the ravages of time; otherwise, the original state – impressive pyramids surrounded by lush vegetation – has been preserved. Even today, remnants of candle wax can be found in some places, for the Maya who live nearby have not forgotten their ancient gods.
