Zaghouan: Where nature meets Andalusian culture

A beautiful landscape and a deep insight into the culture of the region await you.

Your journey of discovery begins at the Ecomuseum of the Zaghouan National Park. Learn about the fascinating history of the region and visit the Water Temple, also called Nymphaeum. This temple was built in Roman times and served as a source for the aqueduct that transported water to Carthage.

After the Reconquista in Spain in the 15th century, many Andalusians settled in North Africa, particularly in Tunisia. In the city of Zaghouan, some of these refugees found a new home, bringing with them their culture, traditions, and agricultural and artisanal skills, which shape the cultural and historical identity of the region.

The program continues at Dar Zaghouan, a traditional farm and guesthouse. Built in classic Tunisian style with Andalusian influences, the house offers various seasonal workshops where you'll learn about local specialties.

You will have the opportunity to take part in a Kaak Ouarka workshop and learn how to make Andalusian biscuits, watch cheese production in the farm's own cheese factory and take a walk through the organic vegetable garden.

Depending on the season, a demonstration of the distillation of plants for medicinal purposes and the traditional production of extra virgin olive oil are also on the program.
