Description
Mouse Island, Achillion and Paleokastritsa
This excursion is certainly one of the highlights of your vacation.
The extraordinarily attractive landscape of Corfu in combination with the landmark and the fantastic summer residence should not be missing from any holiday program.
The first highlight awaits you in Kanoni, the unique view of the landmark of Corfu. The view of the two small islets, the monastery island of Vlacherna and the mouse island of Pontikonissi, is the most photographed motif of Corfu.
Following in the footsteps of the famous Empress Elisabeth of Austria and Kaiser Wilhelm II, you will reach the village of Gastouri. This is where Sissi's former summer residence, the Achillion, is located. The palace houses valuable memorabilia from both regents and is decorated with numerous ceiling and wall paintings, which are currently being extensively restored. The palace garden, where the empress used to take her walks, is finally open again (admission not included, payable on site). Enjoy the fantastic view over the whole of Corfu town and admire, among other things, the famous statues of Achilles, which Sissi had specially erected.
The onward journey takes you across the interior of the country towards the west, where the picturesque town of Paleokastritsa with its many bays and turquoise waters is located on the rugged west coast. A traditional tavern invites you to linger and the crystal-clear water to swim. Or how about a trip to the Paleokastritsa Monastery or a boat trip to the surrounding caves (not included, payable locally)?
Then you drive up the cliffs to Lakones, also called "Balcony of the Ionian Sea" and enjoy the unique view "Bella Vista". Here Paleokastritsa lies at your feet.
Continue through the towns of Makrades and Vistonas, known for their herbs and other local produce, to an olive mill. Here you will learn everything about the production and you can try very special products from our own olive oil production.
As an impressive conclusion, the coasts of all cardinal points are visible at the same time at the Trombeta Pass.
