Description
Past picturesque landscapes and imposing panoramas
At the beginning the trip goes through the lively fishing village of Camara de Lobos, which Winston Churchill used as a backdrop for his hobby painting. On the second highest cliff in the world, the Cabo Girão (589 m), you will not only be amazed by the view into infinity - far across the Atlantic - but also by the "Skywalk".
This is followed by a detour to the former fishing village of Ribeira Brava, which has blossomed into a small tourist town.
Tip: You are welcome to try a queijada (pastry), very well known for this region.
Now we continue past the north coast, which is rugged by the rough climate of the Atlantic.
After a stop at the well-known "Bridal Veil Waterfall" which flows along an amazing backdrop, Porto Moniz is not far. Here are the well-known lava pools, which are the largest on the island. They were created by volcanic activity and constant erosion over the millennia and are a great refreshment, especially in the summertime.
After lunch in Porto Moniz, you will experience the impressive Paúl da Serra plateau at around 1.500 m, which is a nature reserve and is considered the most important area for groundwater recharge on the island. Erika is also at home here, but in a completely different size than you might be aware of.
